Tuition & Fees
As a small, nonprofit school, we strive to keep our tuition and fees as simple and reasonable as possible for our families. Below is a list of our tuition and fees:
Fall Semester 2026
- Tuition: Tuition is $560 per student per semester.
- Registration fee: $50 per student per semester.
- Materials fee: Only for certain classes that are not using a textbook. The fee may vary, but is not more than $25.
- Books: Book prices vary depending on the class. Books can be purchased when registering or students can purchase the book for their class themselves. Books do not need to be purchased until the student is sure of which class they will be attending.
Enrollment
You can easily enroll for classes online. Payment can be made online after you have chosen classes. Simply follow the instructions to make your payment. We can help you enroll and can accept cash or check in person if you are unable to pay online.

You’re welcome to come to our school, check out our classes for one morning, and then sign-up if it is a good fit for you. Our staff will show you our school, introduce you to our teachers, and help you find the right class for you.

Frequently asked questions
To ensure high quality instruction, teachers are selected both for their knowledge of German and for their teaching ability. Most of our instructors are from German speaking countries and possess teaching credentials. As dedicated professionals, they make sure that the learning experience is fun and well-rounded.
Yes, we changed out name from German Language School of Marin to German Language School of the North Bay to better reflect the counties we serve. Our school was founded in 1967 in Novato and our Santa Rosa Campus opened in 2014.
Yes, we are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Donations to our school are tax-deductible (when they qualify in accordance with the law). Our tax ID is 94-1689600.
We strive to keep our tuition cost low for every student, therefore we do not offer an additional sibling discount.
Our Novato campus is our larger, original campus. It was founded in 1967 and we have about 100 students. We offer our complete catalog of Traditional Saturday classes at our Novato campus. We expanded to open a second campus in Santa Rosa in 2014. We had similar class offerings in Santa Rosa before the pandemic, but needed to reorganize the campus in recent years. We now offer Special Interest classes in Santa Rosa, which are typically on varying days and times.
Yes, we accept donations of German books and goods. We cannot accept cassette tapes, VHS tapes, or German textbooks that have been written in. Contact us for more information.
Policies
Photo/Video Usage
The German Language School of Marin (dba German Language School of the North Bay) reserves the right to use any photograph/video taken at school or any event sponsored by our German school, without the expressed written permission of those included within the photograph/video. We may use the photograph/video in publications or other media material produced, used, or contracted by the German Language School of Marin, including but not limited to brochures, invitations, newspapers, television, websites, etc. To ensure the privacy of individuals and children, images will not be identified using full names or personal identifying information without written approval from the photographed subject, parent, or legal guardian. A person attending our school or one of our events who does not wish to have their image recorded for distribution should make their wishes known to the photographer or contact us at PO Box 2849, Novato, CA 94948, in writing of their intentions and include a photograph (we will only use the photo for identification purposes). By participating in school or an event, or by failing to notify us in writing of your desire to not have your photograph used by us, you are agreeing to release, defend, hold harmless, and indemnify our organization from any and all claims involving the use of your picture or likeness.
Nondiscriminatory Policy
The German Language School of the North Bay admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin, or sexual orientation to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school.
